Safety-Kleen Kicks Off Round Two in its Driver Challenge

June 11, 2011 – Ft. Worth, TX – Spotlighting the importance of safe driving in the form of a rousing competition, Safety-Kleen has completed the second installment of the inaugural Safety-Kleen Driver Challenge. The company’s very best drivers are given the opportunity to have some fun and to step up to their full potential through this unique competition. Competitors, who were selected based on their exemplary driving records, were challenged to negotiate their way through a course of multiple elements designed to test driving skills needed in day-to-day scenarios.

Each event will test drivers in three different vehicle classes. These vehicles include over-the-road trucks, route trucks and oil trucks, the same equipment that Safety-Kleen employees use everyday. The Safety-Kleen Driver Challenge will be broken into five events with drivers competing in their select vehicle class on each occasion. The top competitors from each series at each event will all proceed onto the finals in October.

After driving through tight corners, tackling difficult reversing maneuvers and navigating around various obstacles, competitors were judged according to their driving ability. At the end of the day the winners from each series advanced to the finals, which are set to take place on October 16, 2011 in Las Vegas, Nevada. When asked about the message this event sent out to its drivers, Oil Truck Series driver, Mario Clinton, said “It’s a message that let’s everyone know that hard work pays off and the company does reward hard work. And they’ve given back something other than a paycheck to the employees. They give us a chance to get away from the work place and do something fun.”

More than a dozen of Safety-Kleen’s employees from their headquarters in Plano, Texas, came out to support the competitors. One of the supporters, Kevin Hayden, Senior Vice President of Branch Operations at Safety-Kleen, recognized the importance of emphasizing the message of safety in the challenge, and the impact the drivers at Safety-Kleen have at the company. “If you think about our name is starts with safety and our front line in that defense is our drivers. So, to have professional drivers on the road taking care of the environment, the safety of the public and themselves is critical for us as an organization.”
